755 nm Alexandrite Laser: Properties and Hair Removal Efficiency

01

What Is the 755 nm Alexandrite Laser?

The 755 nm laser uses an alexandrite crystal (chromium-doped chrysoberyl) as its gain medium. Among common hair-removal wavelengths (755/808/1064 nm), 755 nm has the highest melanin absorption coefficient, so photons are captured efficiently by follicular melanin — historically making it a benchmark for single-session hair-removal efficiency.

02

How It Works

Follicular melanin strongly absorbs 755 nm photons and converts them to heat, which diffuses to the bulge stem-cell region and dermal papilla, eliminating regenerative capacity. Because epidermal melanin also absorbs 755 nm, treatment requires precise pulse control (typically several to tens of milliseconds, near the follicle’s thermal relaxation time) and robust epidermal cooling.

03

Ideal Candidates and Limitations

  • Suitable: Fitzpatrick I-III skin, fine to medium hair. Darker skin requires significantly reduced fluence and stronger cooling, with higher risk.
  • Limitations: blonde, white and red hair lack melanin targets and respond poorly; recently tanned skin should not be treated.
04

Parameter Notes

Fluence ranges depend on skin type — lighter skin tolerates higher settings, darker skin requires lower energy. Large spot sizes (12-18 mm) improve penetration and treatment speed. Pre- and post-treatment sun avoidance directly reduces pigmentation side effects.

05

Platform Trend

Modern multi-wavelength platforms integrate 755 nm with 808 nm and 1064 nm diode systems, allowing switching or blending during treatment. LEIJEX’s 1200W 808 diode laser platform supports multi-wavelength configurations.

FAQ

How many sessions does 755 nm hair removal need?

Typically 3-6 sessions at 4-8 week intervals, with 1-2 annual maintenance visits. Hormonal status and hair cycle still influence final results.

755 nm vs 808 nm — which is better?

755 nm has a slight edge for fine hair on light skin; 808 nm diode wins on comfort, device lifespan and maintenance cost. Match the wavelength mix to your client population’s skin tones.
