The Full-Cycle Acne Program: From Active Phase to Scar Prevention
Design for the Lifecycle
Acne programs fail when they treat spots but not the cycle. The full-cycle program runs four phases (medical grading basis: acne by grade):
The Four Phases
| Phase | Goal | Main tools |
|---|---|---|
| Control (2-4 wks) | Suppress inflammation and flora | Medical path (topicals/oral) + blue light |
| Clearance (4-8 wks) | Clear comedones, residual inflammation | Peels + DPL/IPL (redness and mark prevention) |
| Repair (8-16 wks) | Fade marks, early scar handling | IPL for marks; microneedling (conservative on dark skin) |
| Maintenance (ongoing) | Prevent relapse, keep texture | Homecare + quarterly IPL + follow-ups |
Phase-Switch Signals
- Control→Clearance: new inflammatory lesions significantly down for 2 consecutive weeks.
- Clearance→Repair: comedones near zero; marks and redness dominate complaints.
- Repair→Maintenance: marks over half faded, texture stable.
Judge by standardized photos (imaging protocol), not memory.
Device Restraint
- No trauma work during active phases — devices accelerate, they are not the drug.
- Darker skin and scar-prone clients derate all cycle long.
- On oral isotretinoin: only the gentlest adjuncts, per physician.
Devices: LEIJEX OPT (redness/marks) and gold RF microneedling (scars and pores).
FAQ
How long is the full cycle?
Mild-moderate: about 6 months; moderate-severe: measured in years. Setting the timeline upfront is the key to acne-client retention.
When to treat marks versus scars?
Marks (color) start once inflammation is controlled; scars (structure) wait until skin is fully stable 3-6 months — intervening early on active skin is inefficient and risky.
