Prep for Fractional and Minimally Invasive Work: The Elevated Checklist

Why Wound-Class Projects Need the Elevated Prep

Fractional CO2/Er, RF microneedling and injections open the barrier — infection and delayed-healing risks run a class above non-invasive work. Add four items to the universal frame (prep overview).

The Elevated Checklist

  1. Herpes prophylaxis: perioral/facial treatment or any history — prophylactic medication per physician (usually starting 1-2 days before); reactivation is among the commonest fractional complications.
  2. Drug windows: oral isotretinoin typically 6-12 months (physician-directed), topical retinoids/acids 3-7 days, anticoagulants cleared with the prescriber.
  3. Evening logistics: no major social plans or driving that day (anesthetic, swelling, light avoidance); prepare scarves/hats/masks.
  4. Check-in flow: arrive bare-faced, allow 30-60 minutes for numbing, sign consent and imaging authorization.

FAQ

No herpes history — still prophylaxis?

For high-risk facial fractional work, prophylaxis is advised (especially any past episode); truly never-affected clients on low-energy plans may skip per physician judgment.

Pregnancy or trying to conceive?

Pregnancy defers fractional work universally (the contraindication map); trying to conceive — individualize with the physician.
