Why the Mouth Ages First
The perioral zone has one of the highest muscle-activity densities (orbicularis oris works in speech, eating, expression), thin skin, little subcutaneous fat, and sparse sweat/sebaceous glands (weak barrier, prone to dryness). Add photoaging and smoking, and radial lines plus lip atrophy follow — “lipstick bleeds” is a common early complaint.
