The Nature of Striae
When skin is stretched rapidly (pregnancy, growth spurts, rapid weight change, hormonal influence), dermal collagen and elastin tear, leaving linear atrophic lines parallel to stretch — initially red-purple (inflammatory), turning white within months (atrophic). This is structural breakage, not pigment — why brightening creams fail and why “repair” has a ceiling.
