History and Traits
The ruby laser (694 nm) is one of medical lasers’ elders. The wavelength sits in a high melanin-absorption band (stronger than 755 nm) with relatively shallow penetration, historically a key wavelength for superficial pigment and green tattoos. Modern derivatives Q-switch and fractionate it, keeping a niche for low-risk pigment handling and texture in some markets.
